⛰️ Alpine adventure on Transfăgărășan!

Morning: Drive to Transfăgărășan
Leave Sibiu for the legendary Transfăgărășan road – one of the world’s most spectacular mountain highways. After 1.5 hours, reach the road itself, then wind up the serpentine curves for another hour to Bâlea Lake.

Midday: High-Altitude Hike
Begin your hike from Bâlea Lake (2,034m elevation) toward the main ridge of the Făgăraș Mountains – the **tallest mountains in the Romanian Carpathians**.

**What you’ll see:**
– Climb toward Capra Peak
– Magnificent views over Transfăgărășan road’s hairpin curves
– Glacial Bâlea Lake from above
– Pristine Capra Lake (Goat Lake)
– Surrounding peaks of the Făgăraș massif
– Alpine meadows and (in June-July) rhododendrons

– Highest point: Approximately 2,500m

Afternoon: Return to Sibiu
After the exhilarating mountain hike, descend the Transfăgărășan and return to Sibiu (1.5-hour drive).

🏰 Medieval castle meets mountain traditions!

Morning: Corvin Castle
Leave Sibiu and drive to Hunedoara to visit **Corvin Castle** – one of Europe’s most beautiful Gothic castles. This fairytale fortress features:
– Massive towers and drawbridges
– Medieval architecture perfectly preserved
– Knights’ halls and prison chambers
– Stunning courtyard and chapel

Afternoon: Journey into Apuseni Mountains
Head deep into the Apuseni Mountains, driving on gravel roads to reach a remote hamlet high in the mountains – places where time seems to have stopped.

Evening: Alpenhorn Experience
Visit a traditional alpenhorn (bucium) singer who will:
– Demonstrate this ancient mountain instrument
– Unveil the secret messages encoded in alpenhorn sounds
– Explain how shepherds communicated across valleys
– Optionally prepare dinner or famous local cheese pies (plăcintă cu brânză)

🏔️ A different world – off the grid!

Full Day: Remote Hamlet Exploration
Today we discover a world that few travelers ever see – the hidden **summer hamlets (cătune)** of the Apuseni Mountains.

**What makes these hamlets unique:**
– Inhabited only from May to September
– Residents lead incredibly simple lives (many without electricity)
– Main occupations: agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry
– Traditional lifestyle unchanged for generations
– Inhabitants are warm and welcoming to respectful visitors

**Your experience:**
– Hike to one or more remote hamlets
– Meet the seasonal inhabitants
– Learn about their way of life and daily routines
– Observe traditional farming methods
– Possibly help with simple tasks (hay making, animal care)
– Enjoy genuine mountain hospitality

**Why they migrate seasonally:**
In winter, deep snow makes these high hamlets inaccessible. Families maintain village homes at lower elevations, but in spring, they move to mountain hamlets where grazing is excellent and traditions are strong.

🏘️ Stunning white village & Hungarian culture!

Morning: Journey to Rimetea
Spend your last day in the Apuseni Mountains heading to **Rimetea**, a unique village where 90% of the population belongs to the Hungarian (Székely) minority living in Transylvania.

Afternoon: Rimetea Exploration
Spend the afternoon discovering this photogenic village:

**Visual delights:**
– Beautiful white houses with green window frames
– Red flowers adorning every window
– Traditional architecture perfectly maintained
– Stunning backdrop of Székelykő (Piatra Secuiului) limestone cliff

**Wildflower meadows:**

– Open meadows that come alive in late spring and early summer
