The great Transylvanian escape is an experience offering a tranquil respite from the the anxieties of of urban life. As the name suggests, the trip is a travel experience in the Transylvanian countryside, far away from the big city, where our guests can reconnect with nature and enjoy the simple things the village life can bring.
We crafted this program to ensure that our clients can enjoy a worry-free experience from the beginning to the conclusion of their journey:
The concept is simple. We will pick you up from Bucharest (or any other city in Romania), drive you to Transylvania where you will spend the following days. For the entire stay, we have prepared a set of activities from where you can choose from. We can wander the countryside walking from one village to the other, we can go up in the mountains, foraging for forest fruits. We can learn to cook in the village from our hosts or we can spend a day at a farm.
The lodging will be in small traditional guesthouses located in Transylvania. We will favour the ones respecting the local architecture, emanating a warm a cosy vibe. We work with guesthouse owners who are sharing the same passion for rural life as we do.
The minimal length of the package is 4 days, usually starting from Thursday and ending on Monday morning, but here are totally flexible. The trip in Transylvania can start on any day of the week.
The price for our 4 days tour starts from 350 EUR/person. This price is valid for a group of 8 persons and includes accommodation, breakfast, dinner and transportation from Bucharest and back, including all the transfers. Depending on the final itinerary, the type of accommodation you choose and the size of the group, the price can modify, so, for a personalised offer please contact us.
Level of physical activity: Moderate. Our guests need to be able to walk a maximum of 10 km per day walk on uneven surfaces.
Please find below the list of the activities we propose to our guests.
One of the activities we propose is to walking. From one village to another, over the pastures, through forests, on marked and unmarked paths. Feel the countryside flavour: flowers, hay, even animal droppings. See village people at work from the distance, watch their animals during the daily routine. The distance we can cover during one day will be adapted to the group physical condition. The plan is to leave somewhere in the late morning, walk a few kilometres, find a good place to rest at the shade of the forest where we will have a simple picnic with food prepared by our hosts. Then, after lunch, we will continue our walk and return in the afternoon in the village.
If the weather forecast shows signs of extreme heat or rain, we will adjust our timings to avoid high temperatures or rain. In the worst-case scenario, we can choose other activities that aren’t affected by the weather.
This time we will go to take our portion of fresh air up on the mountains. Is scientifically proven that the forest air has healing properties and it decreases stress level. The level of difficulty of the path we are proposing is easy to medium. In the morning we will meet you at your guesthouse and drive you to Paltinis, the touristic resort located deep in the Cindrel Mountains. From there, we can choose one of the hiking trails suitable for our level of fitness. In any case, we will breath one of the purest air in Romania and with the highest level of ozone. We will enter deep in the fir tree forest, cross rushing streams, stumble on sheep flocks, and depending on the season we can forage for forest fruits. We will have our picnic on a clearing or up on the mountain pastures. In the afternoon, we will return back to the guesthouse, for a well-deserved rest.
Another mountain experience, driving on Transfagarasan road is the mother of all mountain road trips.
We will pick you up in the morning and start heading the saw looking ridge of Fagaras mountains. After reaching the road, our first stop will be at Balea Waterfall Cable Car station, where we will start to hike for about one hour to Balea Waterfall. After the hiking trip, we will return to the minivan and continue our adventure on the sinuous Transfagarasan. We will stop many times for pictures and admire the breathtaking views. Somewhere, on the south side, we will reach our secret spot for a picnic, on the shores of a rushing creek. If we are lucky, we may able to spot marmots or chamois.
This activity is for food enthusiasts willing to learn some of the secrets of Transylvanian food from our hosts.
The menu will be chosen together, and most of the ingredients will be from the village. During this day, we will visit our hosts vegetable and spice garden, to learn some bits of sustainable farming and local gastronomy. And of course, the best part will be when everybody will sit around the table to taste the delicious result of everybody’s work.
Today, we propose a transformation. From city life to farming life. .
Take your boots, jeans, the plaid shirt and a big hat and prepare to be a farmer for one day. We will do normal daily activities at the farm, like feeding the animals, milking the cows, sheep or goats, preparing the cheese from the milk, and of course, the best part, a big lunch to compensate the energy we lost during our work.
