Conquer Romania’s highest peaks on this epic 9-day high-mountain adventure through the Carpathians’ most spectacular ranges. Summit Moldoveanu (2,544m) and Negoiu (2,535m), traverse dramatic ridgelines, and experience the wildest alpine landscapes in Eastern Europe with expert mountain guides.
A true mountaineering challenge: This is not a casual hiking tour. Designed for experienced hikers, this journey takes you to Romania’s most iconic summits across five mountain ranges: Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Făgăraș, Cindrel, and Retezat. Expect demanding alpine terrain, long hiking days, and unforgettable rewards.
CHALLENGING TO VERY CHALLENGING – For Experienced Hikers Only
Daily requirements:
• Hiking distance: 13–24 kilometers per day
• Elevation gain: 800–1,200 meters per day
• Hiking time: Several days involve 8–10 hours
• Terrain: Rocky trails, scree, steep ascents, exposed ridges
• Technical sections: Chain-assisted passages (not via ferrata) requiring use of hands
Safety first: All hikes are led by experienced, licensed mountain guides. Routes may be adapted depending on weather conditions and group fitness, with safety as the top priority.
🐻 Wildlife encounters: You have excellent chances of seeing chamois (mountain goats) and hearing marmots in the high-altitude zones. Bears inhabit these mountains but are generally shy and avoid humans. While sightings are possible (particularly in Piatra Craiului and Retezat), we maintain safe distances and our guides are trained in wildlife safety protocols. We hike responsibly to minimize disturbance to wildlife.
🎯 The full 9-day itinerary is a suggested route, not a fixed program.
We understand that not everyone has 9 days available, or wants to tackle all five mountain ranges. This tour is completely customizable to your preferences, fitness level, and time constraints.
Choose only the mountain ranges that interest you most:
After demanding mountain days, rest is crucial:
Balance mountain intensity with culture:
Shorter versions (4-6 days): Focus on Făgăraș Mountains (Moldoveanu & Negoiu summits) plus one other range. This captures the highest peaks while requiring less time commitment.
Extended versions (10-14 days): Add rest days, include Parâng Mountains extension (2,519m), add cultural sightseeing in Brașov and Sighișoara, incorporate spa recovery days at thermal resorts (Băile Herculane, Băile Tușnad, or mountain resort spas).
Spa & wellness integration: Romania has excellent thermal bath facilities near the mountains. We can schedule recovery days at thermal spas between mountain sections, allowing your muscles to recover while enjoying natural hot springs and wellness treatments. Popular options include Băile Herculane (Roman-era thermal resort), Băile Tușnad (volcanic springs), or modern spa hotels in Sinaia and Poiana Brașov.
Lower intensity option: Reduce daily distances, skip the most technical sections (like Piatra Craiului main ridge), add extra rest days, and focus more on scenic ridge walks rather than peak bagging.
💡 How to customize: When requesting your quote, tell us your available time, specific mountains that interest you, whether you want rest/spa days, and your preferred intensity level. We’ll design the perfect itinerary matching your goals, fitness level, and schedule.

We had the great pleasure of spending 10 days in Romania with Florin as our guide. The trip was fabulous. Florin was knowledgeable, interesting, and very articulate, and he was able to answer all our questions – from our original email enquiry to our final departure.
The accommodation and food were excellent, as was his very comfortable van. Florin was flexible with our itinerary, always having interesting suggestions for us. He also guided us on a number of hikes and was very conscious of our safety.
Overall, we had a fabulous trip and highly recommend Florin as a guide.
